Your bitcoin might be worth way less than it was this time last year. But don't say the blockchain isn't good for something.

This Thanksgiving you can track your turkey from the farm where it was raised to your family's dining table thanks to a blockchain solution from Cargill.

Cargill-owned Honeysuckle White turkeys will be trackable courtesy of the company's blockchain technology, bringing transparency to where your bird was raised.

Customers can enter an on-package code at HoneysuckleWhite.com to see the farm where their turkey came from, photos of the farm, and a letter from the farmer.

“Honeysuckle White is committed to food transparency and we are excited to bring more consumers an inside look at the family farms where their turkeys are raised,” said Kassie Long, Honeysuckle White brand manager, in a statement.

Honeysuckle White launched the feature last year in a pilot program, and it's expanding it this year so that more customers can track their turkey. Honeysuckle's pilot last year was the first time a blockchain solution was used by a major turkey brand.

This year, trackable turkeys will be available from more than 70 farms, and the company estimates that more than 200,000 traceable turkeys will be available to consumers this Thanksgiving and holiday season, up from 60,000 the year before.

Thousands of retail stores across the Midwest carry Honeysuckle White turkeys. They will also be available in a limited quantity on Amazon.com, the company said.

“The expanded transparency program with Honeysuckle White turkeys builds trust and increases transparency in the food supply chain, and gives customers greater confidence in the food they purchase and eat," added Debra Bauler, chief information officer for Cargill Protein and Salt.
