Less than a month after Amazon opened its first Amazon Go store in Chicago, it has launched a second grab-and-go store in the Windy City and announced plans for a third.

Amazon announced Monday that it has opened a new Amazon Go store at 144 S. Clark St. The "cashierless" store allows shoppers to scan their phones at a turnstile when they enter the store, grab their food, and leave without having to pay for items at a register or interact with any store employees.

The new 1,200-square-foot store features things like salads, sandwiches, wraps, Amazon-made meal kits and other convenience store items. It includes local food brands like Farmer's Fridge, Fairgrounds/606 Fresh, Troubadour Bakery, I Love Sweets and Argo Tea. It's open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday.

This new location is the fifth Amazon Go store the e-commerce giant has launched. Chicago remains the only city with an Amazon Go location outside of Seattle, which is Amazon's headquarters.

Amazon also announced Monday that it's planning to bring a third Go store to Chicago at Ogilvie Transportation Center, located at 500 W. Madison St. It's unclear when exactly it plans to open.

The first Amazon Go store in Chicago opened in September at 113 S. Franklin St. It was the first such store to launch outside of Seattle.

Amazon reportedly has big plans for its Go stores, with Bloomberg recently reporting that it may open as many as 3,000 cashierless stores in the next five years.
