Ride-sharing service Lyft is reportedly participating in a fundraising effort in collaboration with Chicago’s Chance the Rapper.
Chance, who turned 25 on April 16, is celebrating his birthday Saturday at River North night club LiqrBox. To help Chance celebrate, Lyft is matching rider “donations” from fares collected on Saturday and Sunday to Chance’s SocialWorks organization, which aims to empower youth through the arts, education and civic engagement.
Riders who want to contribute can enable Lyft’s in-app Round Up and Donate feature by selecting “CPS: New Chance Fund.” Fares will round up to the next dollar and the difference will be donated the fund.
This isn’t the first time Lyft has partnered with Chance. The ride-sharing service launched a similar initiative last year to support SocialWorks.
Chance has a history with philanthropic initiatives, and especially as it pertains to tech. He teamed up with Google in December to donate $1.5 million to Chicago Public Schools and education engagement in Chicago. And just in March, he won the Innovator Award at iHeartRadio’s Music Awards, where he was praised for his charity work.
Through SocialWorks, Chance has donated more than $2 million to 20 schools across the city.
