For tech enthusiasts, Apple events are kind of a big deal.

They're where Apple has revealed some of today's most iconic tech products, from the iPod, to the iPhone, to the iPad. The events usually take place in or near the company's Cupertino headquarters, with audiences filling an auditorium and many others watching the livestream online.

But Apple announced Friday that it's planning to hold its next event in Chicago, not California, with a focus on education.

Apple sent an invitation Friday that said it will hold an event at Lane Tech College Prep High School, where the company will share "creative new ideas for teachers and students," according to Bloomberg. The event will take place March 27 at 10 a.m.

As Bloomberg notes, a non-California event is rare for Apple. It last held an education-focused event in New York City in 2012.

The Chicago event comes as Apple is looking for a new campus to hold more than 20,000 jobs. Chicago is among the cities vying for the new office, with Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel saying that the city is "going to go compete and we’re going to put our best foot forward" to try and land the tech giant.

There's no guarantee we'll hear an announcement on Apple's next campus at the March 27 event, but it is likely we'll see some updates to the company's education-based technology. Apple currently offers products like Classroom, an app for managing classwork, and iTunes U, which lets college students view recorded lessons, Bloomberg notes.
