Shiftgig moved into new digs this week and announced plans to expand its Chicago workforce.

Chicago-based Shiftgig, a startup that's built an on-demand staffing platform to connect hourly workers to open shifts, moved into the third floor of 1 N. State St. on Tuesday. The new space takes up more than 23,000 square feet and includes a coffee bar, huddle rooms, phone booths and collaborative space. In the summer, the building plans to open a new roof deck and gym.

The move comes on the heels of an eventful 2017 for Shiftgig, which hired Wade Burgess, the former VP of talent solutions at LinkedIn, to be its new CEO. In December, Shiftgig laid off 75 workers, cutting its staff by a third to about 130 employees. The company said at the time that it was eliminating remote workers to focus on building its Chicago-based team.

After hitting the speed bump last year, Shiftgig now says it's ready to grow again. A company spokesperson said Shiftgig plans to hire around 100 new workers this year across its data science, product, engineering, sales and marketing teams. Shiftgig has raised $59 million in VC since launching in 2012.

“We are thrilled to unveil our new headquarters as a center of excellence for taking Shiftgig to the next phase of our growth,” Burgess said in a statement. “By hiring world-class talent here in Chicago, we are one step closer to fulfilling our mission of connecting millions of people with millions of shifts.”

On Wednesday, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel was on hand to help cut the ribbon on the new space. Check out images of Shiftgig's office below.
