Chicago-based tech companies Groupon and ParkWhiz have partnered up to make redeeming a Groupon and finding a place to park while you do it much simpler.
The Groupon app now allows users to find and pay for a ParkWhiz parking spot, a move that shows how Groupon is positioning itself to be a platform that serves “just about any local need.” The companies began piloting the new offering late last year, according to a statement.
“We want to make it as easy as possible for people to explore the amazing local businesses in their communities,” said Jennifer Carr-Smith, senior vice president of North American Local at Groupon, in a statement.
Founded in 2006, ParkWhiz provides on-demand parking services and has thousands of locations across the country. They have more than $36 million in venture capital funding, according to Crunchbase.
“We believe that parking isn’t the final destination—it’s a bridge to the experiences people are most excited about,” said ParkWhiz CTO Jeff Judge in a statement. “We’re streamlining the process of buying on mobile so Groupon customers can handle their parking needs at the same time as they are saving on experiences in their city.”
