Hyperloop One, the company developing super-fast transportation technology, has partnered with HERE Technologies, a Berlin-based international mapping tech company with a large Chicago presence, to build a passenger app that simplifies and personalizes hyperloop trip planning.
The app allows users to plan their hyperloop trip, and book and pay for a ticket. It is also equipped with ride-hailing services, such as Lyft, ensuring users can organize all of their travel needs in one app, according to Tech Crunch. The app, slated to be available later this year, was revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas on Monday.
Back in September, a Hyperloop plan that would connect Chicago, Columbus and Pittsburgh was selected as one of 10 winners of Hyperloop One's Global Challenge. The plan would get riders from Chicago to Columbus in less than 30 minutes, and from Columbus to Pittsburgh in 20 minutes.
There is still no guarantee that the project will move forward, and there is no word as to when it might, but if it does come to fruition, the project could drastically change the way people commute to the three cities. Similarly, the Hyperloop One still remains far from a reality, but if and when Elon Musk's high-speed transit system gets off the ground, HERE wants to be in the position to help riders get to their destination.
Hyperloop One, based in Los Angeles, has raised more than $276 million in funding since launching in 2014, according to Crunchbase.
