A Chicago startup that helps brands test and optimize ads has been acquired by Airbnb.
AdBasis announced on its website that it was acquired by Airbnb on November 13. The news was first reported by TechCrunch.
AdBasis was founded in 2014 by Jason Puckett, the former VP of sales at Chicago startup SocialKaty, and Joe DiVita, a former software engineer at Belly. AdBasis will shut down and Airbnb will retain the startup's IP, and its senior leadership is relocating to San Francisco, according to TechCrunch.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"We're thrilled to share with you that as of November 13th 2017, AdBasis has been acquired by Airbnb," Puckett wrote in a blog post. "As part of Airbnb, our team will continue to pave the way in digital creative testing & optimization technology. We look forward to continuing to change the way the world views ads."
AdBasis provides an analytics tool for companies test ads on search, display and mobile. The startup's tech shows how changing things like ad content, keywords and geo-targeting can impact the effectiveness of a company's ads. "Our tool calculates the statistical significance of these changes and helps brands understand which alterations to their ad mix make the highest impact," AdBasis says.
AdBasis also uses data to help companies make decisions about where to spend ad dollars. Its customers included Angie's List, FICO and Safeway.
