To help rideshare companies, like Uber and Lyft, collect data on drivers’ behavior and performance, Arity, Allstate Insurance’s tech company, has launched a new shared mobility tool, the company announced Tuesday.
Branded the Shared Mobility Solutions suite, the tool will help rideshare, car share, car club and peer-to-peer companies optimize efficiency and foster better business through access to driver analytics compiled by Arity.
Founded in 2016, Arity works to collect billions of miles of sensor data from smartphones and vehicles to help insurance companies evaluate the risk of a driver. But now with the new shared mobility suite, Arity will also begin providing its data to ride-sharing companies. The tech company operates out of Allstate’s Innovation Hub in the Merchandise Mart and employs about 300 people.
“Personally, I believe that my ride-share driver should have four stars because he’s a good driver and not just because his car didn’t smell and he gave me a mint,” said Arity CEO Gary Hallgren. “There’s something around safety that we’re helping a lot with.”
The new shared mobility suite uses predictive data models that assess risk, driver behavior and economic value to help rideshare companies hire and retain safer, more reliable drivers. Arity tracks the number of miles driven, fuel consumption, car maintenance costs and daily travel habits.
“Understanding that risk is really important and we’re bringing these services to that ecosystem of companies,” Hallgren said.
Multiple rideshare companies are already signed up for the new suite, but Arity declined to disclose specific ones.
“Our solutions leverage Allstate's ability to pull risk levers and account for driving habits to manage profitability,” said Rachel Allen, product leader for transportation and mobility at Arity, in a statement. “The fact that we can transfer this expertise to help shared mobility companies solve the biggest problem of keeping more people and vehicles on the road, actively sharing rides, is quite incredible.”
