When Jennifer Carr-Smith left her role as president of Chicago online grocer Peapod earlier this month, Peapod parent company Ahold USA said it was “for another opportunity,” and we didn't know much else.
Now, we know where Carr-Smith is headed next.
Groupon announced Tuesday that it has named Carr-Smith as its senior VP, General Manager of North America Local. She'll be tasked with leading Groupon's Local business, including areas like Health, Beauty & Wellness, Food & Drink and Sales Operations.
"The opportunity and momentum at Groupon are tremendous," Carr-Smith said in a statement. "They've built an amazing local marketplace and---more importantly---a very talented team that's committed to bringing real value to customers, small businesses and the communities around them. I look forward to helping extend their advantage in Local."
Carr-Smith was named president of Peapod in 2015. She took over for Peapod co-founder Andrew Parkinson, who transitioned to an advisory role. Walt Lentz, head of supply chain strategy and operations for Peapod, has now taken over as interim Peapod president.
Prior to Peapod, Carr-Smith was COO of J. Crew's online business. She was also on the initial management team at Gilt Groupe, and has held executive roles at Polo Ralph Lauren Corp. and Drugstore.com.
Carr-Smith will begin her new role on September 25, Groupon said.
