Amazon is Opening A Pickup Location in Lincoln Park

Amazon is coming to another Illinois college campus.

The e-commerce giant confirmed it is opening a pickup office near DePaul University this fall, located at 1001 W. Webster Ave. Amazon customers will be able to pick up and return Amazon orders at the 2,800-square-foot shop, and Prime members can get free same-day and one-day pickup for orders shipped to the location.

While the pickup location will likely serve many DePaul students, anyone in the neighborhood can use the location for Amazon orders.

"Amazon is excited to bring an Amazon pickup location to 1001 W. Webster near DePaul University, offering the community a convenient way to pick up and return Amazon orders, including virtually everything one needs - from everyday essentials to technology," said Amazon spokesperson Carly Golden. She did not share further details on the space or opening date.

This is the third pickup shop that Amazon has opened on Illinois campuses. Last year Amazon opened shops in the student centers at University of Illinois-Chicago and University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign. Because Amazon was leasing from the schools, universities also received a cut of the sales. The Lincoln Park location breaks with this trend, as the space is not owned by DePaul, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Amazon has opened more than 16 campus locations since 2015.  Chicago-based Consumer Intelligence Research Partners estimates that more than half of all US residents ages 18 to 34 have Prime memberships.

This is just the latest in a series of moves by Amazon in Chicago: The e-commerce company opened a bookstore in Lakeview this spring, and announced several distribution centers that have brought over 7,000 jobs to Chicagoland over the past two and a half years.
