Office Envy: COCO's West Loop Coworking Space Has Office 'Campsites'

At COCO Chicago, coworking is more than open work tables and shared desk space.

The West Loop space, located at 1046 W. Kinzie, offers startup suites with private offices for teams up to 10 and office "campsites" which are dedicated, separated workspaces for four, six, and eight-person teams. The idea is to cater to those who like the community (and affordability) of coworking, but want space away from the hustle and bustle of a shared work environment.

"What this meant for our Chicago space, was introducing a product that didn't previously exist in the Chicago coworking community--campsites," Kyle Coolbroth, CEO and co-founder of COCO, explained to Chicago Inno over email. "These campsites--dedicated group spaces that are designed to open up to the collaborative coworking areas--have been extremely popular so far and are selling better than our suites. We've proven that these spaces can be dedicated and open, and still drive a collaborative community."

COCO's West Loop location (which opened last May after COCO, a Minneapolis-based coworking company, acquired Enerspace) also offers shared desk space for individual members, drop-in spaces for quick meetings away from the common area, a coffee bar, mother's room, and meeting rooms that non-members can also rent.

"At COCO, we are very focused on community and with this in mind, we design our spaces to architect serendipity," Coolbroth added.

They offer a tiered membership for individuals, starting at $85 per month, as well as the startup suite and campsite option for small businesses and startups. COCO members also have access to COCO's four other coworking locations in Minnesota, as well as a number of coworking spaces nationwide through COCO's LeXC and Google for Entrepreneurs partnership. Currently, the Chicago location has about 80 members.
