Chicago Inno Approved: The Startup Events You Need to Know This Week

Tuesday

General Assembly is hosting an introduction to the Chicago design community event Tuesday at 412 South Wells Street. The panel and networking event will cover key events, companies, people, current issues and career paths in the industry. More info here.

Queer Tech Club is hosting a meetup Tuesday at TechNexus for connecting and networking. The event is sponsored by Volt Workforce Solutions, and attendees will be able to chat with members of the Volt team. More info here.

Wednesday

Tech in Motion is hosting an event Wednesday titled Smart City: IoT in Chicago. Located at the National Association of Realtors, the event will feature experts from all aspects of the Smart City movement in Chicago, including Brenna Berman, chief information officer at City of Chicago, Christopher Coté, lead lab engineer for the National Association of Realtors' R&D Lab, Vivek Mehra, the CEO and founder of ParqEx, and Derek Eder, a civic technologist and one of the leaders of the open government community in Chicago. On Wednesday, a stacked panel of Chicago VCs and executives will talk about trends they are seeing in the market and what investors are looking for in 2017. Featured panelists include Rick Zullo, vice president at Lightbank, Terry Howerton, founder and CEO at TechNexus, Guy Turner, partner at Hyde Park Venture Partners, Jason Duboe, principal at Chicago Ventures, Tasha Seitz, chief investment officer at Impact Engine, Jason Heltzer, partner at Origin Ventures, and Kim Trautmann, director at DRW Venture Capital. Thursday

On Thursday Chicago Inno is hosting our Startups to Watch meetup, which will feature pitches and discussions with several of the companies named in our December Chicago Startups to Watch report. These are companies we're predicting and anticipating big things out of in the coming 12 months and beyond. More info here.

The Connected Intelligence Foundation is hosting a talk with John Pletz, the tech reporter at Crain's. Located at 1871, Pletz will touch on the companies getting funded and the key players to watch. More info here.

Friday
