How To Live Stream President Obama's Farewell Speech in Chicago This Week

President Barack Obama will give his farewell address from Chicago Tuesday evening at McCormick Place.

The outgoing president is coming full circle--it's the same venue where he gave his acceptance speech when he was re-elected as president of the United States in 2012, and just blocks from Grant Park where he held a rally when he was first elected as president in 2008. His legacy will live on in the city in a permanent way in Jackson Park, the south side neighborhood where Obama will build his presidential library.

Tickets for his farewell speech quickly sold out Saturday morning, but you can still live stream Obama's speech online. Here's where to watch online and what to expect.

The event will live stream from the White House website and on the White House's Facebook page. Obama will begin speaking at 8 pm CST. The White House is encouraging those to tweet their memories of his presidency with the hashtag #YesWeCan, the slogan of his first campaign.

What to expect

In a message sent to the White House email list last week, Obama said the speech will convey gratitude and a sense of direction moving forward.

"I'm just beginning to write my remarks," he wrote. "But I'm thinking about them as a chance to say thank you for this amazing journey, to celebrate the ways you've changed this country for the better these past eight years, and to offer some thoughts on where we all go from here."

"Since 2009, we've faced our fair share of challenges, and come through them stronger," he added. "That's because we have never let go of a belief that has guided us ever since our founding—our conviction that, together, we can change this country for the better."

He already gave his farewell address as Commander in Chief to men and women in uniform, and according to the White House Instagram, he touched on the importance of "openness and tolerance.""We have to remember that as we meet the threats of our time, we cannot sacrifice our values or our way of life—the rule of law and openness and tolerance that define us as Americans," he said. "That is our greatest strength and makes us a beacon to the world. We cannot sacrifice the very freedoms we’re fighting for."
