Kick off the new year with Chicago tech--these are the startup, tech, and networking events you need to know this week.

Tuesday 1/3

BNC Venture Capital Group is hosting a pitch night in which three entrepreneurs will present their startups to a room of investors. The event will be held at Neal, Gerber & Eisenberg LLP, costs $27 to attend and will start at 5 pm. More info here.

Wednesday 1/4

Is your 2017 resolution to learn how to code? Get started with this Intro to Javascript course, designed for beginners with little to no programming experience, hosted at DeskLabs. The event will be held at 6 pm and is free to attend. More info here.

Thursday 1/5

Smart Grid Cluster, an organization that helps support entrepreneurs working on the future of energy will cohost its monthly meetup, Current, with the Institute for Sustainability and Energy at Northwestern (ISEN). The event will take place at Coalition:Energy from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, and is free to attend. More info here.

Chicago Women Developers is hosting a night devoted to security and privacy, and will walk attendees through how to keep communications secure. The event will be held at 1871 in the DeVry room at 6 pm and is free to attend. More info here.

Friday 1/6

Anita Borg Institute Chicago is hosting a showing of Hidden Figures, the movie based on the story of black women mathematicians that were instrumental in NASA's space missions in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s (starring Janelle Monae, Octavia Spencer and Taraji Henson). The event will be held at AMC Block 37 theater from 3:45 to 7:30 pm and tickets are $17.35. More info here.
