Amazon Brings Its Grocery Delivery Service to Chicago

Amazon's grocery delivery service is now available to Chicagoans who'd prefer not to leave the house for a week's grocery run.

Amazon announced Wednesday that it's bringing AmazonFresh to Chicago and Dallas, adding to the more than a dozen locations where the grocery delivery service is already available. Amazon launched the service back in 2007.

AmazonFresh allows you to get grocery items and other household goods sent to your door via same day or next day delivery. You can order a range of things like fresh groceries, prepared meals, beauty products and other items, and select a delivery window for the groceries to arrive. Customers can choose from either attended or unattended deliveries.

The idea is that you could make an order in the morning and have groceries delivered in time for dinner, or place an order at night and have them waiting on your doorstep before breakfast.

Amazon Fresh costs $14.99 per month as an add-on to an Amazon Prime membership, which costs $99 per month.

“Whether they are busy with family, work, travel, or something else, we believe all Prime members will enjoy the convenience and flexibility of AmazonFresh, in addition to the vast selection and low prices that the service offers," Ben Hartman, VP of AmazonFresh, said in a statement.

AmazonFresh joins Skokie-based Peapod and Instacart as grocery delivery options in Chicago.

AmazonFresh is also available in Seattle, New York, Philadelphia, Stamford, Trenton, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Diego, San Francisco, Sacramento, San Jose, Stockton, Northern Virginia, Boston, Baltimore and London.
