The Atlantic's WHAT'S NEXT? conference takes place this week in Chicago and will feature talks that will explore inventions that make day-to-day life better across health, science, technology and other industries. The Techstars Chicago community demo day will be hosted at the House of Blues Tuesday, where the 10 companies will showcase their work to the public. Startups include CompleteSet, a platform for collectors to find and sell memorabilia; Jio, a wearable device maker that helps parents monitor the location of their kids; and Arena, a chat app for sports fans during live events. Networking group SPARK is hosting a night of networking and improv at Grind Coworking in Chicago. Tony Rielage of Theatre Momentum will lead the group through improv games, and attendees will learn how to communicate, listen, and connect. More info here.
On Wednesday, DePaul faculty and students will showcase their work on examining life expectancy in Chicago’s 77 neighborhoods. The event, hosted by the Chicago City Data Users Group at Microsoft Chicago, will focus on life expectancy and social determinants of health to explain how it shapes and influences the health of our nation and our city. The South Side Pitch is taking place Thursday at UChicago's Polsky Center. Five finalists will present at the Shark Tank-style pitch competition that aims to highlight startups on Chicago's South Side. The winners will receive a cash prize. More info here.
