A venture capital firm debuted its first fund this week to provide financing to nurse entrepreneurs.

Co-founder Beth Brooks said in a statement that the new fund — Nurse Capital — launched to break down "stereotypes" about nurses, such as that they lack the skills and financial wherewithal to launch a business.

The new $1 million fund will invest in late-seed and Series A rounds for startups led and founded by registered nurses.

Brooks and Marla Weston founded Nurse Capital in 2022. Both doctorates in nursing science, they have more than 50 years of combined experience in health care administration. The two have opened their own consultancy firms in health care, and Brooks previously served as president of Resurrection University.

"With all the money being raised for health care ventures, bright, talented nurses with great business ideas still struggle to get the resources they need to launch their businesses,” Weston said in a statement.

The fund will invest in health care devices and equipment, tech platforms that can improve patient treatment, enterprise software, and health products and services.
