Artificial intelligence diagnostics startup Altris AI announced a $1 million funding raise on Wednesday that the company will use to scale its AI-powered solution that helps detect eye disease.
The round was led by Runa Capital with participation from Joint Journey, Pharmaceutical Company Farman, Artesian, Brinc Limited, University of Chicago Booth School of Business and Chicago Booth Angels.
Altris AI is developing an AI platform that assists eye care professionals in fighting blindness. The platform can detect more than 100 pathologies such as age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma, and its technology can assist and train optometrists to identify, localize and quantify signs of eye disease.
Altris's AI-powered medical image platform has been installed in more than 30 clinics. The company also offers a free educational mobile app with more than 11,000 active users.
"We are convinced that blindness can be prevented since it's predictable," Altris AI founder and CEO Andrew Kuropyatnyk said in a news release. "Our core motivation is to develop the most accurate and powerful tool we are able to."
The startup, originally from Ukraine, hopes to build solutions for the $58 billion global ophthalmology market as the world faces a shortage of optometrists.
