A Chicago startup that makes family planning support and insurance available as an employee benefit has raised a round of funding led by Chicago VC firm Lightbank.

Nubundle announced that it has raised $1.5 million in a seed round. Aside from Eric Lefkofsky and Brad Keywell's firm Lightbank, the startup also raised money from NFP Ventures, the investment arm of insurance broker NFP, as well as San Francisco-based Village Global.

Nubundle was founded earlier this year by John Ciasulli, Uptake's previous COO and one of its earliest employees, and Chris D’Cruz, who was previously head of business and corporate development at Raise.

Nubundle allows employers to give their workers access to family planning and fertility services as an employee benefit. Through Nubundle, employees have access to a family planning concierge who can provide fertility support, access to affordable fertility treatments, and financing and insurance options.

The goal, the company says, is to make fertility services more affordable and help workers get better access to the care they need.

“Starting a family should be one of the happiest moments of someone’s life. However, the reality for a growing number of people is that it involves stress, fear, and a lack of support and information,” Ciasulli said in a statement. “We want to make sure everyone understands their choices and has an affordable path to maximize their chances of conceiving, freezing their eggs, or accessing services like IVF.”

The startup is planning a beta launch in January 2019.
