New Money: ItemMaster Raises $7.5M to Help Companies With Digital Brand Images

Deal: $7.5 million

Investors: The round was led by New Jersey-based Edison Partners, with participation from Chicago Ventures. Chicago Ventures led ItemMaster's seed round last spring.

What they do: Skokie-based ItemMaster is a digital brand image and content provider. The startup helps companies produce and distribute product photos and content information online. ItemMaster's platform allows manufacturers to verify, share and manage their product portfolio and custom branded content for distribution across all of their channels. Through the company's OnDemand API, 1,000 retailers, e-tailers, agencies and mobile application developers can access ItemMaster’s certified content from more than 5,000 brands.

“We are on a clear path to creating dynamic packaging for the 21st century for the $600 billion food industry in the U.S., which adds immense value to our manufacturer and retailer customers alike," ItemMaster CEO Michael Murray said in a statement. "Going forward, we see a real opportunity to end the burden of content cobbling by providing visibility into digital content distribution and addressing the expanding product content needs emerging in today's marketplace."

Other details: ItemMaster was founded in 2009 and is was subsidiary of Ahold USA's Peapod division before it spun out as an independent company in March. It was launched to help distribute photos for Peapod.
