Deal: $20 million

Investors: Silversmith Capital Partners

What they do: Chicago-based email marketing company ActiveCampaign announced Tuesday that it has raised $20 million in equity from Boston-based Silversmith Capital Partners. Launched in 2003, ActiveCampaign provides customers with a marketing platform that lets them send and design email newsletters, automate marketing channels, and get more sales leads.

Other details: Since the beginning of 2015, ActiveCampaign says it has grown 550% and expanded its team from 14 employees to more than 75. The company has been bootstrapped up until now and is profitable, the company says.

“We have been incredibly impressed by what Jason, as a founder who has bootstrapped his company, has built - and built profitably,” said Silversmith Managing Partner Todd MacLean in a statement. “He and the company are just getting started.”

“We think a marker of truly great software companies, ones like Solarwinds, SurveyMonkey, and Atlassian, is having a product customers like so much that it is really bought, not sold," he added. "The ActiveCampaign community is passionate, fiercely loyal, and seeing impressive results using the platform. We think this speaks volumes to how Jason has thoughtfully built the product with his customer in mind. We couldn’t be more excited to become his partners.”
