Local organizations have teamed up to host a weeklong series of entrepreneurial events across Charlotte.

Global Entrepreneurship Week was launched in 2008 by Global Entrepreneurship Network to help people across the world cultivate their ideas and scale their businesses. More than 40,000 events will take place in 180-plus countries, impacting more than 10 million entrepreneurs.

Innovate Charlotte and the city of Charlotte are hosting the Queen City’s GEW this year, which holds a theme of “Entrepreneurs Thrive Here.” Running Nov. 13-19, it will include 26 local events to help new founders as well as veteran entrepreneurs connect, network and grow their businesses. The organizers are partnering with local nonprofits, educational institutions, tech organizations, municipal governments and ecosystem leaders on a variety of speakers, workshops and networking events.

This year marks Charlotte's third GEW. It will include a mix of in-person, hybrid and virtual events.

"Small businesses are incredibly important to our community, and they face unique challenges in times of economic uncertainty," a city spokesperson told CBJ on the significance of the GEW events for local entrepreneurs.

One event that was held yesterday is CLT Alliance Foundation’s interactive demonstration of the Regional Innovation and Support for Entrepreneurs digital resource hub. Launched Nov. 13, R.I.S.E. is an online platform created to offer business owners vital resources, mentorship and networking opportunities. The foundation is an arm of the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance.

Other events such as a Google developer festival, venture capitalists conference and a women in fintech session will also take place during the week. The city expects several hundred people to participate in GEW locally.
