Charlotte startup Lucid Drone Technologies has unveiled its newest feature, focused on window cleaning.

The robotics company announced today the launch of the Lucid C1 window-washing drone. The drone can be used by anyone, but it is ideal for window-washing companies or those providing such services, Lucid says.

Lucid originally launched in 2018 with a drone that power-pressure washes the exterior of buildings. In spring 2020, it expanded its drone services to disperse sanitation solutions inside buildings during the peak of the pandemic. Now, the startup has an on-board chemical tank that allows drone operators to clean windows without having to leave the ground.

“Drones are quickly becoming a popular tool, taking various industries such as security, agriculture and more to new heights,” Lucid says in a news release. “Now they're making their way into the external cleaning market … With the development of the new window-washing drone, Lucid Drone Technologies can continue to transform the cleaning space, creating a safer, faster, smarter way to wash exterior surfaces.”

The startup aims to make its new product easy to use. Lucid Clear, the window-washing solution, is attached to the drone in a chemical tank. The solution is a contactless glass cleaner designed to remove soil from windows without the need to wipe, brush or use a high-pressure wash.

The drone's operator connects the chemical-ready device to a soft-wash rig with a hose and then uses a controller to direct it to clean. The drone is equipped with a “stable, easy-to-fly platform” that allows the operator to focus more on cleaning than maneuvering the drone, the release states.

“The whole process takes just a few minutes, and it's much safer and more efficient than traditional window-cleaning methods,” Lucid says. “Thanks to this new technology, cleaning crews can now clean windows quickly and easily, without putting themselves at risk of injury.”
