Charlotte-based SignUpGenius is expanding its core offerings through its new platform Lumaverse, a group management company focused on nonprofits and K-12 schools.

SignUpGenius, founded in Charlotte in 2008 by Dan Rutledge, Angel Rutledge and Michael Vadini, is an online application designed for group organization, event planning and volunteer scheduling and management.

In late June, the company joined several other tech platforms to launch Lumaverse. Mike Barros, Lumaverse chief executive officer, said it's a streamlined way for nonprofits and school organizations like a PTO or PTA to engage with stakeholders.

Barros said the idea is to use the SignUpGenius platform in an expanded capacity to focus on nonprofits and K-12 schools. Lumaverse links SignUpGenius with technology aimed at solving volunteer, member, event and fundraising challenges.

"We thought, let's bring the tech to the marketplace with SignUpGenius as a core part of the solution," he said. "They’ve been looking to do more and more things surrounding engagement with the community."

Lumaverse's platform allows users to do a multitude of things through existing partnering platforms, including volunteer, member, donor and fundraising management via NonProfitEasy; volunteer, online appointment scheduling via TimeTap; crowdfunding via Fundly; PTA and PTO member management via Membership Toolkit; PTA & PTO member directory services via AtoZConnect; and course and event registration via Learning Stream and GoSignMeUp.

Barros said as part of Lumaverse, the companies will continue to operate as standalone brands within the Lumaverse platform while being increasingly integrated as a suite.

"Our mission is to build simplicity into software solutions that light the way to increased engagement, data-driven insights and streamlined group management," he said.

Barros said while Lumaverse has launched, the team is working to continually integrate more into the platform. An initiative Barros said they're working toward includes a community portal that lists all service or volunteer opportunities grouped by zip code.

"As we look forward, we are extremely excited about the innovations we plan to introduce into the market," he said.
