Just a few weeks ago, we reported that SoGal, the New York-based organization that looks to create more opportunities for diverse entrepreneurs, kicked off the first of its 25 regional pitch competitions in Charlotte.

And now, we have more SoGal news to report. This time, however, it’s out of D.C.: Charlotte-based startup Vishion won SoGal’s Washington-based iteration of the event. Founded in 2017, Vishion is an app that lets users search for decor (furniture, art, accessories) by color.

As a result, founder Samantha Smith will head to San Francisco for SoGal’s three-day founder bootcamp. She’ll also have an opportunity to pitch at the organization’s global finals in Silicon Valley. The prize for that contest is “half a million (and counting)” investment dollars.

“Whenever you’re pitching against such talented founders and amazing companies, it’s always a shock to be selected as a winner,” Smith told Charlotte Inno. “This win gives us the opportunity to pitch in front of an audience that is typically inaccessible in the South. Especially getting a chance to pitch in front of [venture capitalist] Tim Draper, so he’ll at least recognize our name, is a big deal to us.”
