Winston-Salem startup Javara plans to double its staff within two years, having recently raised $47 million.
Javara, an integrated research organization, plans to add approximately 200 employees over the next one to two years. The company is currently approaching 200 employees, said Emily Simpson, senior director of marketing.
Javara was founded in 2018 by Jennifer Byrne, Amanda Wright and Linda McCarty. It works to revolutionize the clinical research industry by partnering with health organizations and expanding patient access to clinical research. Javara integrates research teams and infrastructure into the health organizations, offering centralized resources and standardized operations to advance clinical care.
Its current health-care partners include Wake Forest Baptist Health, Charlotte-based Tryon Medical Partners and Privia Medical Group.
In April, the company announced it had raised over $47 million in Series B funding from global growth-equity firm General Atlantic — a significant increase in fundraising. It had previously raised a total of $13 million. Of the $47 million raised, $30 million was in the primary offering and $17 million was in the secondary offering.
Javara said, besides hiring, it plans to use this new capital to expand geographically and technologically.
The plan is to grow in Winston-Salem and across the United States as Javara enters new partnerships with health-care organizations, Simpson said. In February 2021, Javara signed an agreement with Wake Forest Baptist to extend their partnership to provide clinical research services across Wake’s 24-county service area. Wake officially combined with Charlotte's Atrium Health in 2020.
At a recent Founders Forum event, Byrne, CEO, said she is committed to keeping Javara in Winston-Salem and doing so was part of the agreement with the new investor.
