Home-building startup Atmos closed on a $4 million round of funding last week that cofounder Nick Donahue said will help amplify their platform.
Donahue, alongside Trent Hedge, Austin Kahn and Matt Rastovac, launched the platform in late 2019 to give potential homebuilders the ability to create the home of their dreams.
Atmos' online platform makes a selection of vetted local Realtors, architects and contractors available in one place, allowing users to customize their home-building experience from conception to move-in.
Through the website, clients start by working with a Realtor to find a plot of land. Next, they'll choose a home plan and work with an Atmos concierge to adjust the home plan to best fit their needs. Finishes can be customized or selected from a list of pre-existing options, and the entire interior can be designed and ordered.
The funding round was led by Khosla Ventures with investments from Dropbox VP of Product and Growth Adam Nash, Lennar board member Scott Stowell, JLL Spark Vice President David Gewrster and a group of TikTok influencers. Donahue said they plan to use the investment to build up the core team and implement an improved version of their web-based platform.
"The new site allows the homebuilder to visualize every stage of the process, from placing the house on the lot to the walk-through," he said. "I really think the new version of the product is going to be the most important piece. It's just so captivating and is a game-changer."
The platform is currently accessible in Charlotte, Raleigh and Durham, though Donahue said they plan to begin looking at launching in a fourth location outside of North Carolina sometime next year.
Earlier this year, Atmos raised a $2 million round and participated in the Y Combinator program.
