Tackle.io has once again been ranked among the fastest-growing technology businesses in North America.
The 2023 Deloitte Technology Fast 500 honors innovative, quick-growing private and public companies from across the continent. The latest list puts Tackle.io at No. 27, dropping it down a bit from its No. 17 ranking last year.
The ranking, in its 29th year, is based on submitted applications and public company database research to determine percentage fiscal-year revenue growth over a three-year period.
Tackle.io, a cloud marketplace unicorn, grew revenue 6,586% from fiscal 2019 to 2022.
The company has a remote workforce but with a team in Buffalo and a locally based CEO, with John Jahnke residing in Orchard Park.
Jahnke got his bachelor’s in business from SUNY Buffalo State College and his MBA in management from the University at Buffalo, according to his LinkedIn.
A year ago, Tackle.io had 310 total employees with 31 based in Western New York. Then the startup announced over the summer that it was eliminating 75 workers, including six in the Buffalo area. The move was part of a reorganization and restructuring of its team to allow the business to focus investments short term while adjusting to the current market and being ready to reinvest as the market recovers, according to a company blog post.
"This is a decision that comes after an ongoing discussion about how the market is evolving, what our customers most need today, and how we best adapt for short and long-term success," Jahnke wrote in a June blog post. Tackle.io currently has enough capital to last more than five years and is “well beyond profitability,” he added.
Currently, the company has 190 employees with around 25 in the region, according to Jahnke. The business has also been regularly using Buffalo as a meeting place for its teams. For example, Tackle.io has its sales team in town this week for an enablement session.
"We will continue to grow in Western New York as we identify people inspired by our mission of helping cloud enable revenue systems for software companies by partnering more with AWS, Google and Microsoft," he said via email.
Vir Biotechnology Inc., a San Francisco-based life sciences company, once again topped Deloitte’s list with revenue growing 222,189% from fiscal 2019 to 2022.
