Buffalo-based startups kept up a robust pace of funding rounds this summer, at least by local standards.
Here is a roundup of the companies that completed funding rounds over the past few months.
Centivo
$51 million in Series B1 funding
The Buffalo-based healthcare tech startup raised $51 million in venture capital to fuel its national expansion. The round was led by B Capital Group and Maverick and included contributions from a variety of firms. Buffalo-based Rand Capital Corp., which previously invested $800,000 in Centivo, sold its stake in the company for approximately $2.4 million as part of the round. Rand expects to realize a gain of $1.6 million on its investment into Centivo.
CleanFiber
$11.9 million in private funding
The company, which established its base in Buffalo in 2017 after winning a 43North prize, closed on $11.9 million in private funding from a variety of sources.
The round included a $4 million investment from Aligned Climate Capital and a contribution from Jeff Wilke, the former second-in-command at Amazon. Local investors included the NOCO Energy, 43North (which made a $300,000 investment this spring) and the Western New York Impact Investment Fund, which invested $500,000.
HiOperator
Undisclosed sum*
HiOperator, the tech-enabled customer service startup with operations in Buffalo and Dallas, received a new injection of cash from existing investor HearstLab. The amount of the investment was undisclosed.
Immersed Games
$540,000 seed round
Immersed Games has closed on about $540,000 of an ongoing seed round this year. The Buffalo-based startup has developed an educational game that helps middle schoolers develop STEM skills.
Joblio
$4 million seed round
Joblio, a Saas platform for the global talent marketplace, raised a $4 million seed round from a strategic corporate investor. The company has a distributed workforce but founder and CEO Jon Purizhansky is in Buffalo.
Patient Pattern
$1.2 million seed funding
Patient Pattern, a software platform that seeks to improve nursing home care, raised about $1.2 million with contributions from Launch NY and the Buffalo Angels.
Garwood Medical Devices
$4 million in Series C funding
Garwood Medical Devices raised $4 million to support continued development of its leading wound care technology. Contributions came in from the WNY Impact Investment Fund, the Murray family (former owners of U-C Coatings) and a global network of investors in the orthopaedics and health care space.
VeriTX
Friends and family funding
Blockchain-based digital supply chain startup VeriTX brought in $250,000 in friends and family funding.
Jerry
$75 million in venture capital
Jerry – which is based in San Francisco but has a significant hub of operations in Lockport – raised $75 million in funding to support the development of its car “super app.” Jerry also completed a venture capital raise in the spring and has now closed on $103 million this year
Ognomy
$1.37 million in pre-seed funding
Ognomy - a tech-enabled system to support sleep apnea treatment – closed on $1.37 million in its first outside funding round. Investors include two Bay Area venture capital firms, including Future Communities Capital, led by investor Rohit Gupta.
Classavo
Undisclosed*
Classavo raised an undisclosed sum as it seeks to scale its higher ed classroom management software platform.
