Buffalo Business First chose 10 companies this year for our inaugural Inno Fire awards, representing the breadth and diversity of Buffalo’s startup scene. These are their stories.

Kangarootime

CEO: Scott Wayman

Founded: 2015

Headquarters: Seneca One Tower, Buffalo

What the company does: A software platform to help daycare and preschools manage their business

Scott Wayman told everyone this would happen.

The California native moved to Buffalo in late 2017 after his startup, Kangarootime, won an award in the 43North business competition.

His pitch to judges that year? That the early childhood education market was desperate for high-quality business management software.

Fast-forward four years: Kangarootime is one of the breakout companies in Buffalo’s tech scene, with more than 50 employees and plans for expansive growth going forward.

“We are seen now as the signature enterprise software platform in child care,” Wayman said. “We have been focused for years on product, engineering and customer feedback – now we have such a great product it’s time for people to learn about it.”

Kangarootime closed on $6 million funding round in fall 2021, which gave the company cash to grow in preparation for larger funding rounds.

“The growth rate is unbelievable,” Wayman said. “We’re about to really ramp up the headcount.”
