Cue the drumrolls and brass. We're down to the Tech Madness 2021 finals.

Clocking in at well over 29,000 votes, BostInno readers, you've made your choices about the final two startups facing off in this year's bracket. And this year, we could be looking at an underdog victory.

GelSight, a Series B-level startup that produces high resolution, non-destructive elastomeric 3D imaging, has narrowly beat competitor after competitor to make it to the very last round. The Waltham company won against its opponent in the semifinals, on-demand staffing startup Jobble, by just 66 votes.

GelSight is going head to head against fintech company MineralTree, a veritable giant in this competition — the company has held onto its status as the top vote-earner for the last four rounds. MineralTree went up against underdog cyber-risk ratings startup BitSight in Round 5, and we're sorry to say it wasn't close. MineralTree pulled in 297 more votes than BitSight did.

Now, it's time to vote for the very last time. Only you can decide who will bring home the Tech Madness championship.

Round 6 is going on now and will run through Thursday, April 1. We'll announce this year's champion on Friday, April 2, so make sure to cast those votes all week long. Until then, check out our overview of the competition below and get voting!

What is Tech Madness?

For the uninitiated, Tech Madness is a friendly competition designed to showcase fast-moving, high-flying Boston-area companies. The bracket, which BostInno’s editorial team assembled based on nominations you sent in over a period of several weeks, encompasses a broad range of private, venture capital-backed or bootstrapped firms — new ventures at the earliest stages as well as some established favorites.

This contest asks the Boston innovation community to vote for the startups they would invest in. Just ask yourself: Which company am I ready to support with my own money? Keep in mind that this isn’t a "versus" thing. Just identify who you’re bullish on from our batch of 64 privately held tech companies and make your pick.

Take a look at our voting guide below. Then, scroll down to cast your vote.

How does BostInno assemble the bracket?

Since funding is the most accessible and universal metric available, that’s what we used as our primary metric for determining which startups made the bracket and where they were placed. You’ll see a few interesting matchups in the very first steps of the competition. For instance, check out Uwill and Klaviyo going against each other during Round 1.

Last year, Berkshire Grey took home the trophy, beating out 3D greeting card company Lovepop by nearly 1,000 votes. Other past winners include Toast (2019) and Botkeeper (2018).

When can I vote?

BostInno’s Tech Madness includes several stages, as the competition gets narrowed down over the course of several weeks. We’ll keep you posted on who’s advancing, and who’s not, right here on BostInno.com and in the Beat. Subscribe here if you're not already on the list.

Here’s the voting schedule to keep track of each move as voters decide who’s advancing to the next level:

  • Round 1: March 9 to 14
  • Round 2: March 15 to 18
  • Round 3: March 19 to 22
  • Round 4: March 23 to 25
  • Round 5: March 26 to 29
  • Round 6: March 30 to April 1
  • 2021 Tech Madness Champion announced: April 2

Now, it’s time to get to the voting. Once each round of voting closes, we’ll advance the winners.
