May M&A: International expansion for Boston-based companies

Ginkgo Bioworks, a synthetic biology company and Affectiva, a human perception AI company both chartered international waters this month.

Ginkgo acquired Dutch DNA, a biotech company located in the Netherland while Affective was acquired by by Smart Eye, a Sweden-based sustainable transportation company.

Here are the highlights from May 2021.

Eastern Insurance Group, acquired the operating assets of the Barr Insurance Agency.

Anaqua, an intellectual property technology software, acquired Colorado-based SeeUnity, a company that manages mobile applications' ability to integrate into software products.

Huntington Avenue Ventures, a new early-stage venture capital firm in Boston, announced its first close, in a sales prospecting and relationship-mapping software startup.

DataRobot, an AI company that works to give nonprofits access to cutting-edge AI solutions, acquired Zepl, a cloud data science and analytics company. The acquisition will combine the company's technology and allow DataRobot to more effectively enter existing software systems.

PerkinElmer, a healthcare diagnostics company, announced it entered an agreement to acquire Nexcelom Bioscience, a life science marketing and developing company, for $260M. The acquisition will bring Nexcelom’s technologies in drug development to PerkinElmer. 

Ginkgo Bioworks, a synthetic biology company, acquired Dutch DNA, a biotech company located in the Netherlands. This acquisition marks Ginkgo’s first international expansion.

 Demand Science, a global revenue technology company, acquired TrustedOut, an artificial intelligence (AI) data aggregation company based in Paris, France. TrustedOut's AI technology will enhance Demand Science's global capabilities in data organization for clients.  

 Biogen, a neuroscience company partnered with Ginkgo Bioworks, a biotech company to collaborate on gene therapy collaboration to treat neurological and neuromuscular diseases.

Affectiva, a human perception AI company, has been acquired by Smart Eye, a Sweden-based sustainable transportation company, for $73.5M.
