Boston-area startups and tech firms raised nearly $3.2B in November, according to data compiled by BostInno.

In the life sciences hub of Boston, biotech nearly always dominates funding, and last month was no exception. Biotech firms — several of them newly launched — collectively brought in more than $2.4B, or more than three-quarters of all funding raised in the region.

That category, in turn, was fueled mostly by two massive raises. Ginkgo Bioworks secured a loan of up to $1.1B from the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation to expand its biosecurity efforts, including its response to the Covid-19 pandemic on both the testing and vaccine fronts. Exactly one week prior to that, Resilience, a new company headquartered in Boston and San Diego that aims to build “the world's most advanced biopharmaceutical manufacturing ecosystem,” launched with over $800M in capital.

One venture capital fund and one special-purpose acquisition company, which are listed below but which we did not include in the total, also raised a collective $524.6 million.
