It’s October, witches. Time to embrace those classic fall activities: apple-picking, pumpkin-carving, leaf-peeping, sweater-wearing. This month, we’ve pulled some awesome virtual events for you to partake in so you can keep networking and learning from the comfort of your home. Maybe with a pumpkin spice-scented candle burning nearby?

Ready for Liftoff: Getting Your Startup Off the Ground: The Startup Coalition is here to answer that perennial question: Now that you have your business idea, how can you actually scale? She+ Geeks Out: October Virtual Happy Hour Sponsored by Buildium: Get your networking on, gals. She+ Geeks Out has taken its happy hours virtual with breakout rooms, featuring small groups of up to six people per “table” prior to and after the webinar. More here. 5 p.m., free

Once Upon a Time in…Medical Device and Open Source Land: Once upon a time, your company began using open source software to increase efficiencies in developing technologies for use in medical devices. Somewhere in this story, an important storyline was overlooked – what is your company’s open source policy? Is everyone on the same page?  Or has your fairytale development turned into an open-source mystery? Boston New Technology CleanTech-GreenTech & Energy Startup Showcase #BNT116: Boston New Technology is bringing you six cleantech and greentech startups for a virtual demo day. Attendees will have the chance to ask the founders questions and network remotely. More here. 4 p.m., free

Thursday, Oct. 15

AMA Boston’s Virtual Marketing Mingle: The Boston chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) has a special guest this month: Drizly chief marketing officer Scott Braun. After a fireside chat with Braun on e-commerce, customer experience, CMO responsibilities and more, AMA Boston will put guests into breakout groups to keep talking all things marketing. AARP Innovation Labs Gaming Challenge: AARP Innovation Labs and MassChallenge HealthTech are partnering on a six-part series of themed innovation challenges. This edition: Gaming. AARP and MassChallenge are looking for immersive and fun video games that are engaging and accessible, regardless of one's age and stage in life. Developing a Business Model for Your Startup: The Boston Entrepreneurs’ Network has put together a powerful panel of experts to help you get your venture to the next stage. That involves developing a business model that defines how your company will operate in terms of hiring, finance and legal setup, marketing and sales, operations and customer care. New England Innovation Showcase 2020: It’s the culmination of this year’s New England Innovation Competition. Twenty-five finalists across eight categories will present, interact with attendees, answer questions and deliver a final three-minute pitch that will determine the 2020 New England Innovation Awards winners. 2020 MassChallenge Virtual U.S. Awards: Four MassChallenge programs. More than 200 startups. One grand evening. The event will showcase the progress the startups have made during their program, feature industry-leading speakers on thriving during uncertainty and award up to $2 million in equity-free cash prizes to the top startups from the programs. Monday, Oct. 26 

The Art of Diplomatic Feedback: Is it something they said or something they did? Or both? How can you suggest improvement without hurting their feelings or causing resentment? “Launching While Female” Book Talk with Susanne Althoff: Somerville author Susanne Althoff, an assistant professor at Emerson College in Boston who had a two-decade career as a magazine editor, will be chatting with journalist Rachel Raczka about her new book, “Launching While Female: Smashing the System That Holds Women Entrepreneurs Back.” Based on 100+ interviews with women and nonbinary entrepreneurs, the book examines entrepreneurship's gender gap and proposes ways to make the entrepreneurial space more inclusive and equitable.
