As working professionals, we’re always looking for new ways to increase our productivity. Luckily, we are living in a technologically advanced society that is constantly providing us with new ways to make our lives easier – namely through the creation of web applications, or “apps.”

If there’s something you need, there’s probably an app for it. This is especially true when it comes to needs relating to the workplace. However, with so many apps to choose from, how can we know which ones are worth downloading and incorporating into our daily lives?

With a little researching, we were able to narrow down the top 5 apps that are capable of helping you to stay organized and increase your productivity in the workplace:

1. Pocket

If you’re a fan of bookmarking articles and videos on your phone or desktop, then this is the app for you. Pocket is essentially an app for storing and viewing your bookmarked content, and is much easier to navigate than a traditional bookmarks folder. What’s more is that all of the content saved to the app can be viewed offline, making this the ideal app for people who are regularly on the go.

Key features:

  • Integrated into 1500+ apps (i.e. Flipboard, Twitter, Zite)
  • Available for all major devices and platforms (i.e. iOS, Android, iPhone, Google Chrome)
  • Offline capabilities

Cost: Free for standard version; $44.99/year for premium

2. Scanbot

Sometimes a traditional scanner just isn’t enough. What happens when you need to scan a whiteboard, a QR code, or something on someone else’s phone? What about when you need to save your scan to Google Drive, Slack, or to another platform that isn’t supported by your office’s scanner? That’s where Scanbot comes in.

Scanbot is a scanning tool for your phone and is capable of scanning information from virtually any surface, including whiteboards, phone screens, receipts, sketchbooks, etc. It also supports all major cloud services, so you’ll be able to save your scans to a wide variety of platforms.

Key features:

  • In-app purchases for recognizing text, annotations, and direct faxing from phone
  • 5 different color modes to make your scans look perfect
  • Can save your documents as PDF or JPG

Cost: Free, with in-app purchases available

3. TeamViewer

Need to log into your work computer from home? TeamViewer makes this possible. All you need to do is keep TeamViewer running on the device you’d like to access, and then whenever you need to log onto that device, open TeamViewer on your phone or home desktop for instant access. Working remotely just got a whole lot easier!

Key features:

  • Remote device control & cross-platform access
  • VPN alternative
  • Google Chrome add-on

Cost: Free for personal use; $49.00+/month for business license

4. Grammarly

Auto-correct is great, but if text messaging has taught us anything, it’s that auto-correct is not without its faults. Luckily there is Grammarly – the personal proofreader that can be used almost anywhere, and that rarely makes the mistakes that auto-correct is prone to making.

As its name suggests, Grammarly does more than just check for spelling errors. It also checks for mistakes relating to grammar, punctuation, word choice, and style. The app can be integrated with all major platforms, which means you’ll be able to compose mistake-free content ranging from emails and text messages to projects and word documents.

Key features:

  • Free browser extension
  • Available on all social media platforms
  • Premium option that detects plagiarism and provides citation suggestions

Cost: Free for standard version; $29.95/month for premium

5. Todoist

There’s no such thing as a working professional who isn’t regularly creating to-do lists. Fortunately, Todoist makes keeping track of your to-do list items very simple. The intelligence software categorizes tasks for you based on your entries, making it easy to compartmentalize to-do list items and prioritize tasks. This app is great for personal use, and it can also be ideal for teams who need to plan projects and monitor deadlines.

Key features:

  • 10+ apps and plugins
  • Syncs across all devices
