VC funding update: Who raised the most in July?

Boston's atmosphere wasn’t the only thing heating up in July. Its VC scene was also heating up, outpacing June’s $397.2 million and bringing in a total of $744.4 million. The funding was spread among a number of verticals, with the medical sphere seeing the most money this month.

  • EnFi Inc., a fintech startup that uses AI to speed up risk analysis, raised $7.5 million in its seed round. 
  • Beacon Therapeutics landed $170M for eye gene therapies
  • Kins, a hybrid care physical therapy practice, raised $7 million in Series A funding. 
  • Cardurion, a Burlington company working on treatments for cardiovascular diseases, secured $260 million in Series B financing led by Ascenta Capital
  • Scorpion Therapeutics Inc., a Boston-based Oncology company, closed a $150 million Series C financing, co-led by Frazier Life Sciences and Lightspeed Venture Partners
  • Customer onboarding software, OnRamp, announced  $14.2 million across Seed and Series A financing in funding to Automate B2B Customer Onboarding
  • GRO Biosciences Inc., a startup spun out of geneticist George Church's lab at Harvard Medical School, raised $60.3 million in Series B financing. 
  • Truvius, a crypto investment management platform, launched with $3.2 million in pre-seed funding.  
  • Code Metal, an AI startup creating development workflows for the edge, secured $16.5 million in pre-seed and seed funding. 
  • Synthpop Inc., a Cambridge-based company developing a suite of AI products to reduce healthcare professionals' time spent on administrative tasks, raised $8.2 million.  
  • Agritech startup Farmblox, founded by three Worcester Polytechnic Institute alumni, raised $2.5 million in Seed Round financing.
  • Spear Bio Inc., a Harvard University biotechnology spinout, closed its Series A financing with a total of $45 million. 
  • ReviR Therapeutics, an AI-enabled biotechnology company, raised $30 million in Series A financing to advance its proprietary oral genetic medicines for CNS disorders. 

In other news, some VC firms have added funds, so be on the lookout for contributions from them in next months VC round-up:

  • New North Ventures closed its $25M first fund. The fund got its start in 2022 and closed in April this year
  • Flagship Pioneering raised $3.6B in funds and expanded its leadership team. The firm says the funds will lead to the creation and development of around 25 new companies in human health, sustainability and artificial intelligence.
