March M&A roundup: Biotech, buyers, and digital health

  • Boston-based Akari Therapeutics and California’s Peak Bio Inc. agreed to merge as equals. The deal is expected to close late in the second quarter. 
  • Fusion Pharmaceuticals, a Boston- and Canada-based biotech, is being acquired by AstraZeneca.
  • Novartis is shelling out millions to acquire a subsidiary of Boston-based IFM Therapeutics, IFM Due.
  • Haemonetics Corp., one of the oldest medical device firms in Massachusetts, is paying $160 million upfront to acquire Attune Medical, a Chiago-based medtech firm.
  • Boston-based e-commerce aggregator Perch was acquired by German Razor Group. Subsequently, Perch said it would be laying off 94 employees in four stages.
  • Boston-based Linus Health, a digital health company focused on the early detection of dementias, has acquired Aural Analytics. The acquisition of the speech analytics firm will add to Linus Health's detection platform.
  • Invicro in Boston and Calyx in London are merging. The combination will increase their digital imaging offerings to the clinical research field.
  • SQZ Biotechnologies laid off most of its remaining employees in November, and in March sold off “substantially all assets” to Stemcell Technologies, Canada’s largest biotechnology company.
