Whoop, a Boston-based wearable tech unicorn, is making changes to its leadership team following its recent acquisition of local startup AnyQuestion.

Founder and CEO Will Ahmed announced the news on LinkedIn Thursday. The chief executive wrote that Whoop has acquired the Boston-based startup.

AnyQuestion, a portfolio company of Boston-based Pillar VC, is a social video app that lets members ask questions and get answers from experts in areas like photography, nutrition and physical therapy.

This deal appears to fit in with Whoop’s recent moves to invest in its new conversational digital fitness coach. In October, the Business Journal reported on how Whoop is using OpenAI’s most advanced generative AI system to power its coaching technology.

The new feature, called Coach, allows users to ask the app questions about their health and fitness metrics and receive a personalized training plan. Whoop’s wrist wearable helps users track things like sleep, recovery, strain and stress through a smartphone app.

Ed Baker, founder and CEO of AnyQuestion, is joining Whoop as chief growth officer. Prior to starting AnyQuestion, Baker led growth teams at Facebook and Uber. Ahmed said Baker has also served on Whoop’s board for over four years.

“Ed will lead efforts to fuel the next phase of hyper-growth at Whoop. He’s joined by his colleagues from AnyQuestion, a Boston-based startup that developed a comprehensive platform to create, organize, and share knowledge-based content, powered by AI,” Ahmed wrote.

Ahmed also announced that Whoop brought on Michener Chandlee as its new chief financial officer. Whoop’s previous CFO, Tricia Gugler, joined the company in her role in 2020.

Chandlee was previously chief financial officer at Fanatics Inc. and before that spent almost 20 years at Nike, most recently as chief risk officer and VP corporate audit.

“We’ve just finished our most successful month ever at Whoop, and we’re preparing for an exciting 2024 filled with growth, innovation, and operational excellence. Proud to have these two leaders on our team,” Ahmed said.
