August M&A deal roundup: Matchmaking, edtech and generative AI

  • Engageware, a cloud-based customer engagement software company, announced the acquisition of Aivo, a conversational and generative AI technology.
  • Billerica medical device maker Bruker Corp. is paying $108 million to buy Emeryville, California-based PhenomeX Inc. 
  • Inlightened announced it has been acquired by LocumTenens.com, part of the Jackson Healthcare family of companies in Alpharetta, Georgia, just outside of Atlanta. Inlightened’s platform helps entrepreneurs with potentially groundbreaking health innovations to connect with the right clinicians and prove their concepts.
  • The New York edtech company Noodle has acquired Burlington-based Meteor Learning.
  • Somerville-based software company SmartBear is acquiring the Texas company Stoplight to “create the most comprehensive API development platform in the industry.” 
  • Boston healthtech Orbita has acquired the assets of Wellbe, a digital health company providing patient navigation for specialty care.
  • Framingham-based Definitive Healthcare has acquired Populi, another healthcare commercial intelligence company, for $52 million. 
  • The New York talent advisory firm ZRG is acquiring Peabody-based The Registry, which places interim leaders at colleges and universities.
  • Ikena Oncology Inc. is set to acquire a South San Francisco startup after Gilead Sciences Inc. waived its exclusive option to buy the company in March
  • Marlborough-based ReWalk Robotics will acquire AlterG Inc., a provider of anti-gravity systems for use in physical and neurological rehabilitation.
  • Waltham software company Dynatrace is acquiring Rookout.
  • Boston-based fintech Stavvy acquired Brace, a tech company in the mortgage servicing industry.
  • Bain & Co. acquired Max Kelsen's consulting and managed services divisions to provide AI and machine learning capabilities to its clients.
