A car subscription startup is opening a new facility in Massachusetts and rolling out new monthly car plans.

Flexcar — not to be confused with the company of the same name that merged with Zipcar in 2007 — is opening a new facility in Auburn. The Boston company aims to provide an alternative to car ownership with its vehicle subscription service.

The company also announced that Massachusetts customers will now have access to all-inclusive monthly plans that include miles, insurance, maintenance, roadside assistance, title, inspection and the ability to swap cars. To use Flexcar, customers download the company’s app, select a car and choose their monthly plan and mileage package.

Flexcar already has locations in Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte and Nashville. The new Auburn location is at 525 Washington St. and will house more than 300 of Flexcar’s vehicles. The facility also includes more than 25,000 square feet of office space. The space is opening with nine employees and Flexcar said it plans to double staff in the coming year.

“Over the last two years, Flexcar has grown from one to four Boston area locations, demonstrating along the way the incredible demand for a more flexible and affordable alternative to buying or leasing a car,” Corey Lewis, CMO at Flexcar, said in a statement.

Flexcar launched in 2021. Since then, the company said Boston-area drivers have covered more than 15 million miles in its cars.

The company opened its Seaport headquarters in 2022 and has more than 100 employees across Massachusetts.

“As Flexcar expands beyond the Boston area and designs new monthly plans, we’re confident that drivers across Massachusetts will love choosing their cars on the Flexcar website or mobile app, specifying where they’d like to pick them up, and driving them for as long as they’d like,” Lewis said.

Boston is also home to the car-sharing company Zipcar, whose niche is offering car rentals by the hour or day. Zipcar was founded in Cambridge in 2000 and moved to Fort Point in Boston in 2012. The company was bought in 2013 by Avis Budget Group for roughly $500 million. Zipcar offers its cars in nearly 500 locations and nearly 500 universities and employs about 400 people.
