Wednesday, May 3

Harvard President’s Innovation Challenge: Hear live pitches from 25 finalist teams and learn which of the freshest and most forward-thinking ventures will receive a share of $515,000 in funding, courtesy of the Bertarelli Foundation. Finalists have been selected from a diverse group of 158 PIC semi-finalist teams with representation from each of Harvard’s 13 schools and over 30 countries around the world. The free event starts at 6 p.m. at Klarman Hall.

Friday, May 5

Own Your Raise Bootcamp — Raising Seed Funding from Investors: The Capital Network’s full-day seminar is designed to provide entrepreneurs an in-depth understanding of what it takes to raise early stage capital and actionable knowledge to help you own your raise. Attendees will spend the day learning from and interacting with New England's leading investors, entrepreneurs, and industry experts through workshops, panels, and discussions. Tickets cost $230 to attend and the event will take place at Nutter McClennen & Fish LLP.

Saturday, May 6

2023 IDEAS Boston Web 3.0 Summit: Hosted by Int’l Data Engineering and Science Association, the goal of this event is to create a community, which can connect blockchain leaders, developers, and enthusiasts. Experts from all around the world will meet together and discuss the trend and future. This event takes place from noon to 5 p.m. at CIC Cambridge and general admission tickets are $200.

Thursday, May 11

AI Career and Education Expo: Listen to experts about the data science hiring process, growing your career and developing skills needed for the right position. View the full speaker lineup here. The all-day event will take place at the Hynes Convention Center. Tickets are free to attend the expo. 

Saturday, May 13

Boston's Innovation Trail — Special 2023 Kick-Off Tour: Learn more about the scientists, inventors, and entrepreneurs who made Boston one of the most innovative cities in the world on this guided tour. The tour will cover topics like the invention of the telephone, surgical anesthesia, how Google came to Cambridge and more. There will also be a special visit to the Verizon Museum of Innovation in Communications, which is not regularly open to the public. The tour starts at 1 p.m. and a standard ticket costs $20.

Monday, May 15 through Tuesday, May 16

2023 MIT Sloan CIO Symposium: The annual event offers interactive learning and thought-provoking discourse on the future of technology, best practices, and business. It includes presentations, panels, networking and a closing reception. The two-day conference takes place at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Cambridge and costs $595 for CIOs to attend.

Tuesday, May 16

Cybersecurity Basics for Small Businesses: This webinar, hosted by the Mass Innovation Network, is designed to help you take proactive steps to protect your business from online security risks. The presentation will be by Tricia King, director of client success for Vertikal6. The one-hour webinar starts at 5 p.m. and is free.

Wednesday, May 17

Fast-Tracking the Patent Process for First Time Applicants: For the first time ever, the US Patent & Trademark Office is offering first-time patent filers an opportunity to receive much quicker review of their patent applications. This pilot program is available to applicants with “micro entity status” (gross income of $212,352 or less). It will particularly benefit inventors in historically under-served geographic and economic areas. Brannon Smith, Legal Advisor in the USPTO’s Office of Patent Legal Administration, will explain program requirements and how to apply. The event starts at 6 p.m. at the Innovation Hub in Haverhill.

Tuesday, May 30

Mixer with Techstars Boston, Techstars Fort Worth and HealthTechBuild: Techstars Managing Directors Kerty Levy and Trey Bowles will give an overview of their Techstars Accelerators and why now is the best time to apply for a Techstars program. They will answer questions and speak specifically to the healthcare focus that Techstars has available across several of its programs. HealthTechBuild founder Jen Sato will share more about HealthTech Build’s unique approach to collaboration in the life science & healthcare ecosystem and how to participate. This free event is from 5-7 p.m. at Industrious in Cambridge.
