March M&A Roundup: Education software, foodtech and clinical research

EverTrue, a Boston education software company, announced the acquisition of The Solas Group, a company specializing in predictive modeling and analytics for the education sector. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. 

The Boston-based, education technology company Cengage Group has completed its previously announced acquisition of Infosec for $191 million.

Boston cybersecurity company Snyk acquired the data analytics startup TopCoat. The startup’s employees joined the Boston company’s platform engineering team. Additional terms of the deal were not disclosed. 

Foxborough-based Thrive acquired SouthTech, a Sarasota, Florida-based technology company. Thrive said this acquisition will help bring its next-generation managed cybersecurity, collaboration and cloud services to Florida. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. 

Emmes, a clinical research company headquartered in Maryland, acquired Plymouth-based Casimir. Emmes said the deal would accelerate its rare disease research. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed

A Maryland biotech has acquired Plymouth-based Casimir LLC, a contract research organization focused on Duchenne's muscular dystrophy and other rare diseases. No terms were disclosed.

Ginkgo Bioworks acquired FGen AG, a Swiss cell screening tech company. Under the terms of the transaction, FGen will receive upfront payment and additional contingent consideration related to, among other things, the successful integration and deployment of the FGen technology across Ginkgo programs.

Pittsburgh-based Magna5, a provider of IT, cybersecurity and cloud-based services, acquired TCG Network Services. TCG is a Boston-based managed IT and cybersecurity services provider. No terms were disclosed. 

Cold Chain Technologies LLC, a provider of thermal packaging for the life sciences industry, acquired Packaging Technology Group LLC. PTG produces curbside-recyclable thermal packaging. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Boston-based Veolia North America, a water, waste and energy management company, has completed its merger with Suez, which provides water and wastewater treatment services. The deal expands Veolia’s services to 6.7M water customers. No additional details were disclosed. 

Pepperell-based CELLTREAT Scientific Products acquired VistaLab Technologies. Both companies manufacture laboratory research and clinical products. CELLTREAT said this acquisition would accelerate turnaround times for fulfilling orders and boost the startup's supply of research and clinical products in stock. 
The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. 

The Live Green Co. merged with five Chilean sustainable food startups. The foodtech company was founded in Chile and recently moved to Cambridge. It said this merger will help further transition the world to a plant-based diet and position Chile as a competitor in the global sustainable food marketplace. Terms of the deals were not disclosed. 

Shares of Starry Inc., a wireless technology developer, started trading on the New York Stock Exchange on Tuesday under the ticker "STRY," shortly after the Internet provider closed its previously announced billion business combination with blank-check company FirstMark Horizon Acquisition Corp.

Microsoft Corp. has completed its acquisition of Burlington-based Nuance Communications Inc., a $19.7 billion mega-deal that was announced about a year ago.
