AI unicorn DataRobot is getting involved in the healthcare market as it eyes an IPO.
Its newly developed health incubator invites entrepreneurs, companies, institutions, colleges and universities and nonprofits to develop solutions for the healthcare market. DataRobot, which is based in Boston, has 220 local employees and over 1,100 employees globally.
“Over the past year, we've been extremely focused on how we can use AI to help with the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Sally Embrey, its vice president of public health and health technologies.
Typically, DataRobot hosts an annual incubator, "AI for Good," for nonprofits to aid them in using AI to better organize their companies.
The "AI for Good" program has worked to analyze well water in Africa and help clean up the Anacostia River in the Washington, D.C. region. For that program, nonprofits come to DataRobot and upon an approved application, DataRobot in return provides free services, in an effort to show the good AI can offer to a growing nonprofit.
The foundation of the "AI for Good" program will be used in its DataRobot's health incubator.
To Embrey, because a lot of AI work goes into managing the healthcare industry, it was a “no brainer” to support an initiative catered toward innovation in the field.
Applications for the health incubator are open through June 11. Accepted recipients will receive hands-on support from DataRobot's customer success teams.
“The hope is that we can really continue to work with clients to build out these ideas and innovations further,” Embrey said.
