MassChallenge, the 11-year-old nonprofit, no-equity accelerator, has welcomed 30 startups into its 2021 FinTech program and another 30 into its 2021 HealthTech program. Both cohorts will be formally introduced at a virtual MassChallenge Verticals Opening Nights on Jan. 13.

Five of this year’s MassChallenge FinTech startups are local to Massachusetts, as are five of the MassChallenge HealthTech startups. Although it was founded in Boston, MassChallenge has programs in Mexico and Israel as well as across the U.S.

The managing directors of both programs noted that the applicant pools this year were the most diverse and competitive to date. For the HealthTech program, the 30 startups were chosen from more than 380 applicants across over 35 countries — less than an 8 percent acceptance rate.

“We’re excited by the range of solutions and perspectives this year’s cohort brings,” Devon Sherman, managing director of MassChallenge Fintech, said in a statement. “In our experience, this diversity of backgrounds and ideas is what drives true innovation.”
