The latest regulatory filing for CyPhy Works, a Danvers, Mass.-based drone company founded in late 2008, brought into view two pieces of news: The company raised over $4.5 million in a debt offering, according to the Form D filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on June 13.
But a closer analysis revealed that the name of Helen Greiner, the robotics visionary who started CyPhy Works ten years ago and later switched to the role of CTO, was not included in the "related persons" section of the form.
Thursday morning, CyPhy Works confirmed to BostInno that Greiner left the company in late 2017.
"Helen Greiner decided to leave CyPhy Works and exit from the Board of Directors in late 2017 in order to work with the Army in an effort to support a broader mission," a CyPhy spokesperson wrote in an email. "CyPhy Works remains committed to delivering tethered UAVs to the defense, government and commercial markets."
Per her LinkedIn profile, Greiner is currently working as a "highly qualified expert" for the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology, a Washington-based government agency that fosters technological innovation to benefit the Army.
In September 2016, Greiner stepped aside from her role as CEO of CyPhy Works to serve as CTO. The company raised over $30 million from Motorola Solutions Venture Capital, General Catalyst, Draper Nexus Ventures and Bessemer Venture Partners.
Greiner also co-founded iRobot, the maker of home vacuum appliance Roomba, in 1990.
