A few weeks before LogMeIn's merger with Citrix's GoTo division is expected to close, Citrix announced that it just completed a mergers and acquisition deal with another Boston-area tech company.
Citrix announced on Tuesday that it has acquired Unidesk, a Marlborough-based company behind the Windows application packaging and management technology known as application layering that allows IT teams to better manage Windows applications on virtual desktops. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
Founded in 2007, Unidesk had raised $36.8 million from Matrix Partners, North Bridge Venture Partners and Ignition Partners. Unidesk customers include Kawasaki, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Missippi and Mazda.
Citrix said Unidesk's technology will be incorporated into the West Coast company's XenApp and XenDesktop products, which help companies securely deploy and manage apps and desktops. It will also sell Unidesk software as a standalone product to VMWare and Microsoft customers.
"By incorporating Unidesk technology into XenApp and XenDesktop, Citrix advances its industry leadership by offering the most powerful and easy to deploy application layering solution available for delivering and managing app and desktops in the cloud, on-premises and in hybrid deployment environments," Jeroen van Rotterdam, senior vice president of Engineering at Citrix, said in a statement.
