Checking in with Noex at MassChallenge

When we last spoke with the Massachusetts trio called Noex, they had just gotten into MassChallenge as one of the 128 finalist startups for the 2016 year. The team, made up of two Startup Challenge alums, Scott Bonney BELM ’14; Brandon Dryer BELM ’14; and their friend Dan Zaleski WPI - BSECE '15 and BSRBE ’15; are working to change the world of physical therapy by creating a wearable device that will provide physical therapy patients with immediate feedback and data on their progress and form. The data will then be able to be sent to a doctor to monitor their progress. You can read more about Noex in their first story here.

Now a month into the “most startup-friendly accelerator on the planet” we spoke with Scott Bonney to get an update on the team and their progress.

What did you expect of the experience going in and how has reality compared?

The reality has been much more than we could have expected even though we knew going in, it would be filled with tons of new information and probably challenging at points. Plus, the atmosphere, just sitting in the office space, is really motivating because everyone at MassChallenge is genuinely excited to be there, and working to improve their businesses. The space really promotes getting out of your comfort zone and pushing yourself to your limits.

Where is the team on the business now / what progress have you made since we last talked?

We’ve been able to make connections with great mentors and industry professionals. We’re still working with the same idea of a device to monitor the movement of a PT patient so we’ve spent a lot of long nights developing and iterating our prototype. The Startup Showcase is July 27th and we are hoping to have something, a looks-like prototype there.

What are some lessons learned since you’ve been in MC?

Never stop learning. There have been a few instances where we didn’t know how to do something and we were able to find mentors or other startups that could help us with the process. I guess you can say we’ve learned that it is important to put yourself and your team out there and ask for help.

What are the next steps for Team Noex?

We plan to continue working with potential customers, doctors, and our mentors as we improve our business model and prototypes.  We’re still in early development so there is a lot to do and accomplish for us.

If you are a practitioner or patient undergoing PT to regain your range of motion (any joint) and interested to share your experiences and give feedback to NOEX please contact us at InfoNoex[at]gmail.com
