Setting Boston Ablaze: Looking Back at BostInno's 2019 50 on Fire

It was a night to remember.

With DJ Wyatt spinning tracks all night long and Vivian Luo wowing us all with her electric violin, Boston's top innovators—hundreds of startup founders, software engineers, marketing experts, nonprofit directors and more—gathered for an evening of celebration. BostInno had announced our 50 on Fire winners more than a month prior, but this was a chance to get together, pop the champagne and, well, throw a party.

Over the course of the evening, guests had the chance to drink cocktails sponsored by Brex, snack on made-to-order mac and cheese, snap photos with our giant 50 on Fire sign and peruse the art made by the artists in residence at Artists For Humanity, the nonprofit that generously offered us its premier venue in South Boston.

What makes a company or individual on fire? We looked at the people, businesses and organizations that have had a banner year in Boston’s innovation economy. That might be marked by a major funding round, a recent product launch, a big hire, remarkable headcount growth, a scientific breakthrough, a successful business pivot, an amazing rebrand—the possibilities were nearly endless.

On Thursday, we officially announced this year's Inno Blazers. An esteemed panel of judges selected one Blazer from each 50 on Fire category. These were the people and organizations who had a little extra spark in their fire.

Many congratulations to this year's Blazers:

  • SmartBear
  • Markforged
  • Beam Therapeutics
  • Form Energy
  • MassRobotics
  • Lola.com
  • Visible Body
  • Clear Ballot
  • Knox Financial
  • Wistia

A huge thank you to all of those who came out last night. We hope to see you at our next event in January, Startups to Watch 2020. Who knows? Maybe some of the startups we feature there will be among next year's 50 on Fire.

We could not have put on this event without the generous support of our sponsors: Brex, Truss, Markforged, Your Love in Lights and Artists For Humanity. Thank you all.

Don't forget to enter the Brex 50 on Fire raffle giveaway which is your choice of an iPad mini or the latest Apple Watch (aluminum case + sports band)! To win you must be: - a current Brex customer (drop off your business card at the event or email mobrien@americaninno.com) - a founder/employee of a funded startup/company (sign up and submit an application to Brex before Thanksgiving here:brex.com/bostinno)

Goodluck!
