And then there was one...
It started with 150 killer Boston tech companies. We whittled that into the traditional, NCAA-style 64-team tournament bracket. We heard you loud and clear on what local tech company you think will have the greatest impact in 5 years. And after more than 100,000 votes were electronically counted this month, we now have a champion.
Toast, a Boston restaurant point-of-sale software company, is our 2017 Tech Madness Champion. Congratulations!
Toast, led by CEO Chris Comparato, has had a huge couple of years. Since securing $30 million in Series B funding in 2016, Toast has continued to think about expansion both in Boston and across the country. So much so, that they are looking to increase their team by a few hundred employees in the next year, and have plans to move to a new space of about 100,000 square feet for their new Boston headquarters.
Toast, who was kicked out of the 2016 competition only after Round 2, brought their A-Game this year. They entered as a #12 seed, and sailed past #5 seed, Vecna, in a first-round matchup. Then Toast edged out seed #4, CarGurus, before cruising past Hopper, Datadog and then ezCater in the Semi Finals. They finished off the competition with a matchup against Cybereason, who really brought the heat, and even flew a message plane over Boston to gain votes. In the end Toast reigned supreme and will be cutting down the Tech Madness net, and made Cybereason, quite literally, toast...
We're taking #TechMadnessBOS seriously.
